Seasoning Your New Detroit Style Pizza Pan

Writer's picture: Kevin JacquesKevin Jacques

It is important to take the time to properly season your new Detroit Style Pizza Pan. Once seasoned, you will get years of use out of it, and the more you use it the better it will get (kind of like a good cast iron pan!)

Two New Detroit Style Pizza Pans

Items Needed:

Detroit Style Pizza Pans

Grapeseed Oil

Paper Towel

Oven preheated to 500°F (260°C)

Process 1. Start by washing your new Detroit Style Pizza Pan with soap and water, then dry it completely. It is ok to put it into the oven for a bit to ensure it is fully dry.

2. Pour about 2 tablespoons of grapeseed oil into the pan, and use a paper towel to evenly coat the entire inner surface.

3. Place the pan upside down directly on the oven rack and bake for 30 minutes.

4. After baking, remove the pan from the oven and let it cool slightly. Repeat this process 4 more times.

  1. With each bake, the inside of the pan will darken, creating a non-stick surface.

  1. Once your pan is seasoned, avoid washing it. Instead, use a plastic scraper to remove any food residue, and wipe it clean with a paper towel.
